April 28, 2006 - Newell’s Old Boys v San Lorenzo

On Saturday, he will watch Estudiantes de la Plata and Olimpo, to watch defenders Juan Daniel Caceres and Jorge Nunez. Ruiz has said that he will publish his shortlist of 23 footballers on May 15, the deadline day set by FIFA.

"We have a base, but there is no reason to hurry. We have to respect the timetable, and although we have everything set, we won't publish until the day," he said.

On Thursday, he will visit Montevideo, Uruguay, to receive the best South American manager award for 2005, sponsored by Uruguay's El Pais daily.

After this weekend's visit to Argentina, he hopes to visit Brazil to watch Carlos Gamarra, who plays for Palmeiras; Julio Manzur, for Santos; and Cesar Ramirez who plays for Flamengo.

April 6, 2006 - Arsenal coach resigns in Argentina

Jose Maria Bianco has resigned as coach of first division Arsenal the fourth coaching victim of the year in Argentina, local media said on Wednesday.

Bianco had been in charge of the unfashionable club since last August, when he took over from 1986 World Cup winner Jorge Burruchaga.

He was jeered by the home crowd during a 5-2 home defeat by Gimnasia-Jujuy on Sunday. The defeat left Arsenal 14th in the Clausura championship with 12 points from 10 games.

Gustavo Alfaro (San Lorenzo), Angel Zof (Rosario Central) and Fernando Quiroz (Racing Club) are the other coaches to have either resigned or been fired by first division clubs since the start of the year.

April 4, 2006 - San Siro to echo to a Latin American beat

The Bosman ruling ended the foreign “quota” limit on the number EU players allowed to play in European teams. There are few teams who have exploited this more than Inter Milan and Villareal who meet each other in Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final.

The two sides – who meet at the San Siro – have a combined total of 25 Latin American players, the vast majority of whom have EU passports. Villareal also have a Chilean coach, Mauricio Pellegrini.

Even more staggering is the fact that 13 of the 25 are Argentines. Pellegrini himself won championships with Argentina’s River and San Lorenzo before he joined Villareal.
