Runecrafting Guild and Game - For All Players

Posted on August 13, 2008 at 1:43 PM - 0 Comments - Post Comment - Link

Ever since a brave adventurer rediscovered Runecrafting, mages from the Wizards' Tower have been working hard to figure out its intricacies. In fact, so many have been drawn to Runecrafting's secrets that a guild has formed.

Not everything is rosy and happy in the guild. An argument has raged over the magical reaction that creates rune stones: are green or yellow orbs more important in the process? Agree to resolve their conflict and you'll find yourself in our newest minigame, The Great Orb Project!

The purpose of this team-based minigame is very simple: collect more coloured orbs than the opposing team. Watch out, though, as they will be pushing your orbs out of the way to stop you winning. This frenetic minigame offers few rules and a great alternative to conventional Runecrafting - all with a range of rewards, of course. Expect rune essence, Runecrafting XP and new magical equipment if you wipe the floor with your opponents.

The Runecrafting Guild also offers a number of features that are not tied to the minigame. The rune altar map helpfully shows the location of all altars; one mad wizard has learned how to repair abyssal pouches; and the head of the guild is working on a marvellous omni-talisman that combines the powers of all existing talismans into one.

Note that the guild is available to both free players and members - the Runecrafters want all the help they can get!

Summary

Where to find the Runecrafting Guild:

The guild can be accessed through a portal, upstairs in the Wizards' Tower.

Requirements to access the Runecrafting Guild and minigame:

Level 50 Runecrafting
Rune Mysteries
The guild is available on F2P, but some individual features are for members only

Access to:

A new guild
A fast-paced, team-vs-team Runecrafting minigame - The Great Orb Project
Various new items for runecrafters, including a new outfit

In other news...

Beyond the Runecrafting Guild, this update brings you a few small things that should make your lives easier...

Kazgar, Mistag and Dartog have been given right-click options so you can quickly ask them to guide you through the Lumbridge Swamp Caves. Elkoy, the guide from the Tree Gnome Village maze, has been given a similar option.

When you previously right-clicked on a chat message from another player, you were always offered the option to 'Add friend' and 'Add ignore'. If that player was already on your Friends list, those options weren't very useful, so we've replaced them with a new 'Message' option. This is identical to what would happen if you clicked on your friend in your Friends List. (This is not available on Quick Chat-only worlds.)

Tai Bwo Wannai village welcomes its newest arrival, Imiago. If you've completed Jungle Potion, he'll be willing to protect your calquat trees from disease in exchange for eight poison ivy berries.

The gardeners who protect bush patches have always demanded payment to look after poison ivy bushes. It's been pointed out on the Forums that poison ivy bushes never get diseased anyway, so the gardeners runescape  lotro gold maplestory mesos no longer offer to look after them.

We've also fixed the following bugs:

  • Treasure Trail sliding puzzle boxes were getting stuck, making them impossible to complete.
  • The roof of the Grand Exchange was failing to disappear correctly when you stood underneath it. Similar bugs were affecting the front of Varrock Palace and bits of the Warriors Guild.
  • The Amulet of Catspeak was incorrectly positioned on female characters.
  • The Amulet of Fury was not rendering correctly with the Bandos chestplate on male characters.
  • If you wore a blue snelm, your chathead was appearing yellow.
  • The 3D models for skillcapes were using too many polygons, resulting in bizarre graphical glitches. They have now been remodelled to resolve this problem; their appearance is largely unchanged, but you may notice some slight changes.
  • Mud pies were positioned incorrectly when you wielded them.
  • Flared trousers were rendering incorrectly with most boots.
  • The 'fine shirt' base kit had a glitch affecting the neck area on male characters.
  • The mind tiara was missing part of its model.
  • Baba Yaga's hair was clipping through her hat.
  • The progress hats from the Mage Training Arena were not rendering correctly with players' hair.
  • Radimus Erkle, master of the Legends' Guild, had a rendering problem with his cape.
  • The obsidian cape was rendering incorrectly with certain tops.
  • Bogrog was checking for the wrong Summoning level when players tried to exchange praying mantis pouches for shards.
  • Trimmed chaps and Wilderness capes were rendering incorrectly on female characters.
  • The mime mask and zombie mask items were displaying incorrectly during dialogue.
  • Players could walk through a rope barrier in the Varrock Museum.

E3 '07: Lord of the Rings Online patch impressions

Posted on December 28, 2007 at 6:40 PM - 0 Comments - Post Comment - Link

Even though Lord of the Rings Online: The Shadows of Angmar shipped to stores earlier this year, Turbine and Midway have some interesting plans for their upcoming patches that they were eager to share with us. If you remember, a major patch (referred to as Book 9) was launched only six weeks after the game hit retail shelves. This added the Evendim zone, increasing the size of the world by 10 percent!

Whew! It¡¯s been an unbelievable year for LOTRO ¨C seeing Middle-earth coming alive before our eyes has made all the years of development worthwhile! It¡¯s hard to believe that less than a year ago we were deep in Beta, preparing the game for a huge launch!

At the same time, the developers included the Annuminas zone, but made it inaccessible. Sure, you could see it in the distance, but you could never go there. But when the Book 10 patch goes live in August, you'll finally be able to visit. When you arrive, you'll encounter a war zone where evil NPCs are constantly trying to overrun three distinct regions. If you manage to push them back and take control of an area, you'll gain access to an instance. Within that instance, special items will drop that you can take to a vendor and trade for pieces of a slick-looking and powerful set of armor.

For those of you who like a little backstory with your gauntlets, Annuminas was the original settlement of Elendil and the Dunedain after the calamitous downfall of their Island Kingdom. Then, for reasons never gone into, they abandoned Annuminas and moved on, leaving it uninhabited for 1,500 years. Now you're trying to keep it out of the hands of the enemy, for who knows what wondrous weapons and treasures may have been left behind by the Men of the West...

We aren't sure, but we do know that players will find a new reputation system in the 10th book, as well as new public dungeons they can quest in to build a relationship with the faction of their choice. This will serve two purposes: An opportunity for players to earn powerful weapons beyond their level, and a chance for Turbine to show off the kind of deep caves that players will be able to expect in future patches, when the developer digs into the deeps of Moria.

Or, if you aren't in the mood for questing, Book 10 will allow you to log directly into Monster Play, so you can slay the forces of goodness violently, and conveniently. And nothing is more violent or less convenient for your foes than a giant troll, which you will be able to play as in the new patch. But trolls (and rangers, on the free side) won't be units you can keep and develop, rather they're part of a new system called Session play. Basically, you can spend five thousand destiny points and spend an hour as a giant troll. It sounds expensive, until you realize that every ability in a troll's lethal arsenal affects multiple targets.

There's a catch, though. To keep trolls and rangers in check, Turbine plans to limit the available number of sessions at any given time. If your faction controls most of the Ettenmoors, there may only be one or two session slots available. On the other hand, if your side is getting killed, seven slots may open, giving your forces a chance to get back into the battle.

As a leading MMO, we¡¯re looking forward to expanding the LOTRO franchise into China, Korea (we recently announced our partner NHN, a huge game operator in Korea) and other territories worldwide, adding to our huge and growing communities in North America and throughout Europe.

If all the slots are taken and you're tired of questing, you still have one new option: Critter-based Session Play. If you go to the Shire, you can assume the form of a free-range chicken for 500 destiny points. As a chicken, you have a huge list of deeds to complete, and some that will take you as far as Angmar! There can only be fifty chickens online at a time, and we have a feeling the spots will fill up frequently. Just check out this list of abilities: Threatening Cluck (You cluck threateningly!); Bob and Weave (You concentrate on not getting your head cut off); Possom Impersonation (You play dead, because who would eat a dead chicken?), and Foul Fleetness (A 50% movement increase for thirty seconds).

We know, that's a lot of information, but clearly Turbine has been hard at work giving players a clutch of reasons to be excited about the coming months in Middle Earth. And on top of all this, they told us they will definitely be introducing player housing in Book 11, which should be available sometime this fall. In the meantime, you should definitely take a look at what's new in Lord of the Rings Online. That is, unless you're chicken.

Lord of the Rings Online Book

Posted on December 26, 2007 at 11:23 PM - 0 Comments - Post Comment - Link

Phil "Ralphedelominius" Comeau and I ducked into the Midway Games area at E3 for a chance to talk about Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar and to preview the game's next free update, Book 10, which will be coming some time in August. Developed by Turbine and published in North America by Midway, LotRO launched in late April of 2007. First we chatted with Adam Mersky, Director of Public Relations for Turbine. Mersky was affable and eager to talk about Lotro, despite the fact that we were just chatting to pass the time until the demo station was available. We talked a bit about what Mersky called Chicken Play (more on that in a moment), and some of the other goodies that would be coming to LotRO soon. "In the fall we're going to be looking at housing again," Mersky said. "I don't have many details to give you, though." He mentioned that the team was still finalizing housing details, but that Turbine would possibly hold an event in the fall to "give people a preview." Will housing be instanced? Mersky couldn't say. He did say, "We can't have tract housing in the Shire!" Then he laughed and added, "We're thinking that in the way a character has slots, housing will also have a vault with slots. You can earn stuff, say a carpet, and then you'd put it in your carpet slot and it would show up in the room." Mersky seemed excited about the upcoming content in Book 10. "I think Book 10 is going to be a real big deal," he said. "Whereas Book 9 was all about big open spaces and adding 10% more to the game, Book 10 will be smaller scale but will add new features and lots of new quests." Phil Comeau commented that Lord of the Rings Online is one of just two games that he's still actively playing. "You know, that's the ultimate compliment, right? When I talk to gaming journalists who usually review a game and move on, and they're still playing, that's huge." "Well, I've hit a plateau around level 20 that I'm not too happy about..." Phil mused. "Maybe you're like me, though," Mersky said, "and you're just taking your time and running around doing all the quests and such. You know, there's grind in every game if you play it that way. Sometimes you've got to stop and smell the roses...enjoy the ride." Without a segue, Mersky added, "I think Lotro gold has really raised the bar for quality. You can't come out and not be polished. You have to remember it's not just the game, it's the service." He went on to make an example of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, referring to the way the game's bugs and sluggish performance at launch caused subscriber numbers to drop dramatically. "This is our Vanguard person," Comeau laughed, pointing at me. (I responded, "Guilty!") "Ah, well but it's not that way...we learn from each other; we're not at war with each other," Mersky said. At about this time the demo station opened up and we were introduced to Allan Maki, Content Designer for Turbine. It was clear from the get-go that Maki is excited about lotro, because his enthusiasm for the game is palpable. He started off by showing us the entrance to the city of Ann¨²minas, which will be entirely opened to players in Book 10. Players entering Ann¨²minas will arrive in a war zone, complete with scripted battles to engage them in the unfolding storyline. Maki also showed off session play (SP). Coming with Book 10, players will have the ability to spend Destiny Points for the opportunity to play a ranger, a troll, or a chicken for a period of time. First we saw the ranger. Picture one of Aragorn's bretheren clad in fancy, ranger-esque armor. Then we saw the trolls, who have massive AoE capabilities. "AoE is how they fight, and they do it well," said Maki, demonstrating the troll's ability to throw boulders and damage multiple enemies at once. And finally, we saw the chicken. We asked if chicken play was instanced, and Maki told us that it was not. In fact, chickens run in the world at large. "You're a free range chicken!" Maki joked. "And one of the benefits of being a chicken is you run faster. Just imagine a couple groups of players all turning chicken. You'd have a herd of speedy chickens coming at you over the hill." Maki explained how players start in The Shire and complete deeds to earn the destiny points necessary for chicken play. He showed us a chicken engaged in battle. The chicken was able to play possum. She also used an attack called Biting Shrew and another skill called Threatening Cluck. "This is really for a touch of humor and fun," Maki said, "But there is a whole big quest line here with chicken play." Maki talked briefly about bartering and showed us the bartering window. Essentially, players will be able to trade certain goods (instead of coins) with special vendor NPCs. Another feature coming to Book 10 is the Reputation System. Reputation is a means of gaining faction with certain NPC groups within the game either, apparently by killing their enemies and completing quests. Earning their favor grants special rewards. "It's basically another way to advance your character," Maki said. New public (non-instanced) dungeons will be opened up for questing related to the reputation system. Maki also hinted at some raid content coming with Book 11, and said the community could expect an announcement very soon. Attractive graphics, reasonable system requirements, solid gameplay dynamics and an unbeatable brand combine to make Lotro gold one of the hottest MMO titles available. And with free updates coming at a rapid pace it's clear that Turbine is committed to keeping Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar a fresh and ever-evolving game. Turbine is committed to keeping Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar a fresh and ever-evolving game.

Runescape Guides

A newbie's Runescape life

I am a newbie for the mmo game Runescape. But I like it so much.
My combat lvl is just 21. I had played the game for 3 days.
I am 35 years old. My son always plays this game and he told me it is very cool. So I join it.
At first, I finished the newbie quest. Then I was moved to Lumbridge when I was lvl 3. I began to practise my life skill and combat lvl.
I attack some goblins. First I don¡¯t know the differences of chop, slash, lunge and block. I just used Slash and my strength XP grew very fast. But the attack and defence didn¡¯t get any xp. Then my son told me I need use other actions to get the other xps. Well, lots of goblins were killed at my sword. That¡¯s a cool feeling.
I also do some life skill. Like Fishing, Cooking, Firemaking and WoodCutting. Well, It is really a new world for me. I will go to varrock and play there.
Runescape is really a great life for us.I like it. And I think I will continue to play with my son.
Here is some introduction of Runescape.
Runescape2  or RS2 is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that was developed by Jagex, a United Kingdom company, in 2001. RS has both free-to-play (F2P) and pay-to-pay (P2P) accounts. With over a million P2P accounts and over 9 millions F2P accounts, RS is considered to be one of the most popular online games in the world. In December 2003 Runescape was also named as one of the fastest growing MMORP game.

how to and where to fight for newbie in runescape

when you have finished the newbie quest. Then you stand in lumbridge. In this space, there are some low level monstor run around.you could kill them to get exp to lvl up your skill and others.
Goblins, Lvl 2

there are many level 2 goblins running around between Lumbridge and Draynor Village (where the nearest bank is). They are non-aggressive (meaning, they don¡¯t attack you when you walk by them) and drop runes as well as low-level armors, as well as bones and coins. The low-level armors can be sold at the shop to build up your money stores, and the runes can be stored in your bank account for use when you decide to practice your magical skills.

Chickens and Cows, Lvl 2

In the northeast of Lumbridge, across the river from where you originally started the game, you could not only find Goblins and also Chickens and Cows running around.

These areas were discussed in a previous entry about aquiring food on Runescape without begging, I was focussing my attention on picking up raw beef and raw chickens that other players have left behind in their own battles.

This time, the attention is on being among those players slaying the poor innocent farm animals for experience, adventure, and glory!

Chickens can offer bonus that was not discussed earlier - feathers, which are used in fly fishing and, if you¡¯re a member, in fletching for the creation of arrows. Keep those feathers around, since you never know when you might need them or could sell them for up to 10gp a feather!

Cows also offer a bonus in that they drop cow hides which are used to improve the Crafting skill, but the hides don¡¯t ¡°stack¡± the same way the feathers do and your inventory fills up rather quickly, meaning lots of trips to the bank. However, just like in collecting raw beef from what other players have killed, you can collect cow hides and make that, instead of fighting the cows, your specific goal. It¡¯s likely you can sell each cow hide for 10-20 gold once you¡¯ve collected 100 or more.

Giant Rats, lvl 3

Just to the west (outside) of Lumbridge Castle is an area with a few level 3 giant white rats, and a few level 1 mice running around. Mainly, you get raw rat meat and bones from these rats, but occasionally you may luck out and receive a rat tail. It¡¯s important to know where rat meat is as at least one quest asks for it, but I much prefer the previous opponents due to the better ¡°drops¡± they offer.

Other non-grouped monsters

In Lumbridge there are a couple level 4 Women who reset in the houses. In general, Women and Men are great opponents to start against, and they offer decent ¡°drops¡± including occasional clues to treasure trails!! For this reason you may find competition stiff for the Men and Women on Runescape.

That should give you a great start!

Runescape cheats

Posted on December 3, 2007 at 12:17 AM - 0 Comments - Post Comment - Link

Welcome to goldsrunescape.com to buy your runescape money! We are the professional runescape gold shop, Site customers are buying service offered by other other players¡£All of our gold and items are collected without Runescape cheats or Runescape hacks.

Runescape cheats - As their name suggests hints are not exactly Runescape cheats, and are usually just simple (but very useful) tips on how you can unlock secret level, features, find hidden areas and such. Hopefully these will make playing Runescape even more entertaining.

Runescape cheats - Three ways for money

1.Easy money:
If you are a member, get to 5 Herblore. Create as many Antipoison potions as possible. Then, sell them to the general store. You will get 114 gp for each potion.
Do the quest that allows you to mine Essences. Mine as many as desired and sell them for 45 gp each.
Get your Fishing up to 40 then fish Lobsters. Get high combat (over level 50 recommended) and good armor (Adamite+ recommended), then go in the volcano on Karamja Island and kill Lessers. They drop lots of money, and sometimes Rune Med Helement. Sell the Rune Meds for 10,000 gp each.
Note: This trick is only for members. Get your Woodcutting level to at least 45 (level 50 is recommended). Go to Seers Village (on the other side of Ice Mountain/Member's Land) and chop down maple trees. These trees are difficult to chop down, but if you get over 500 maple logs, they will sell for a total of 55,000 gp (100 gp to 150 gp each). Once you are at level 60 Woodcutting, you can chop down Yews, which sell up to 300 gp each. Then, at level 75 Woodcutting, you can chop down Magic Trees and sell their logs for anywhere from 500 gp to 1500 gp. A high Woodcutting level is very important to earn money when you are a member.

2.Quick mining and smithing levels:

Runescape - Mine nothing except tin. Once your inventory is filled, drop it all or sell it in the Dwarven mines. Once your mining level reaches 20, you can mine iron. Find the iron rocks just outside the area with the scorpions in the Dwarven mines. You can mine the rocks without much bother from the other players in the game. Mine nothing but these until you reach level 60 mining. Alternately, once you reach level 30 you can mine coal, but it is difficult, as everyone wants to mine it. At level 60, you can enter the mining guild. The guild is located at the far end of the mines, by the scorpions. Inside the guild you can mine coal very easily and smelt it quickly at the Falador Smith, just outside the mines. This will allow you smelt much faster. By this time you should be getting about 350 smithing experience for every load of coal and the other materials, and 30 mining experience for every coal rock mined

2.Free items:

When you do the tutorial at the beginning, keep talking to the people that give you things. For example, with the baker that gives you water and flour, bake the bread then talk to him again. He should give you more supplies.

A good gold tip or quest tip can make all the difference in the game world,It can give no matter how long you have been playing or how experienced you are at runescape. Before studying the meaning under Runescape tips, it¡¯s a good idea to introduce the game - Runescape . Runescape is a MMORPG (Google it if you do not know what it means) in which people from all other the world engage themselves in epic battles. You face other humans and computer controlled opponents that all compete for fame and money. The first thing you do when entering the fascinating world of RuneScape is to select a name.

In Runescape selecting your nickname in a wise manner is an essential runescape tip in the game. This will be your screen identity for the rest of the game and you cannot change it thereafter. Never give your real name to anyone, within any reason. There are many hackers in the Runescape world and giving them your real name will make things much easier for them.

Runescape Mods are rs addons that can enhance the game by making certain actions much easier and faster. There are mods that do a variety of things from auto talker to a mod that lets you switch from one world to the next with a click of your mouse. Because runescape is a java game that requires no download, it can be difficult to create mods for it and a good working runescape mod can be relatively hard to find.

It is usually best to become connected with a community that can help you find mods that you need. Please be sure that you can trust whatever community you join as some sites might try to steal your account with harmful mods and addons. A site that has proved multiple times that they are trustworthy and maintain a valuable forum with constantly updated content is listed below. Please click on the banner to visit their website.

You have the freedom to adventure from a choice of various virtual worlds. A good tip is to select a world that is physically located near your geographical region. This way you can enjoy higher speeds and avoid a lagging connection. If you are going to share any info on Runescape, share the country, this makes it easier to find servers that you might not be aware of, but someone else is.

In RuneScape there is a list called the ignore list. If anyone seems to be annoying you till the cows come home add him to this list and they shall be blacklisted in your interface. Runescape tips are scattered all over the internet. Whether you are a child or an adult, there¡¯s tons of fun to have with RuneScape!

About Runescape party hat

Posted on November 23, 2007 at 3:57 PM - 0 Comments - Post Comment - Link

The Runescape Party Hat is the  rarest and more expensive. In December 2001,it was introduced into the game.

Party Hat is not dropped as normal way in runescape ,It is get by the form of Runescape party crackers.player could open a Christmas cracker and find it in random.

Runescape party hats became exceedingly valuable when people realized that there was obviously a limited number of them available. Runescape party hats range in value anywhere from 200M to 400M and ever since they were discountinued the value has been going up.

The only way to obtain them is by purchasing them from other players, or if they are silly enough to wear them in the wilderness,or carry them with them, take them by force ;)

Runescape

Runescape, its not that bad , Open Minds Only!

Introduction:
For a very long while we have all seen the heated debate (flaming) between Runescape players and players from other major MMORPGS, as well as back and forth between the players of those games. Until now, all I've seen is random criticisms and rants here and there about how one game is better than the other or one lacks something the other has and all this completely unnecessary bickering between players that shouldn't be arguing which game is better, but instead should be talking about why they like their game and how much they enjoy playing it. Answer this question to yourself, in the end, who does it matter to what you spend your money and your time on? Exactly!

1.1 - The art of, making, the history.

To truly understand the purpose or reason a game exists, you must first question the beginning of the creator.

Blizzard: Blizzard Entertainment was founded in February, 1991 as Silicon & Synapse by Micheal Morhaime, Allen Adham and Frank Pearce. Adopting the blizzard name in 1994, they have since become a very vast company with a large amount of resources at its disposal with blockbuster hits including World of Warcraft and the Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft series, the company has enjoyed back to back number one selling games, as well as consecutive Game of the Year awards. The company's free online game service, Battle.net, launched in 1996 for Diablo multiplayer and now spanning to multiple games including starcraft, is now the largest in the world with millions of active users. On November 23, 2004 Blizzard launched their soon to be most popular title yet, World Of Warcraft. Within months it quickly made a name for itself in the MMORPG community as a fun massive game for players to interact between each other and their environment. As of recent, WoW remains blizzard main weapon coming into the fight with well over 900,000 subscribers and dazzling the community with its impressive 3d engine.

For a fully detailed history visit Blizzards official website @ http://www.blizzard.com

Jagex: Jagex software was founded in early 1999 by Andrew Gower, Paul Gower, and Constant Tedder. The main goal was to create and license java based applications/games for third party websites. However talk of a free java bassed MMORPG followed later in the year. Before the company's birth however, in late '98 DeviousMUD had already began beta testing. In 2001, Runescape was created. Jagex had a few tasks in mind for the game. The first, was to extend game features to the point where they could begin charging a monthly fee for the full game (5.00 USD). The second, was to maintain an updated free version of the game for the large scale community to play without having to subscribe. Both of these goals were archived and the members version (p2p) was released on February 27th, 2002. Gaining 5,000 subscriptions in the first week. Runescape Currently has over 9,000,000 free players and approximately 850,000 pay-to-play subscribers as of July 17th, 2006. Founders Andrew Gower and Paul Gower were calculated to be worth 60 Million USD. Jagex has hevily grown as a company since 1999, now with 2 working offices. One in London, and one in Cambridge. As of 2006, the company has a working staff of 312, and 138 servers (worlds) for runescape.

1.2 - Game Engines:

World Of Warcraft: Packing a decent DirecX 9.0 3D engine, allows the creators of the game to have a dazzling display of bright shiny lights, effects, distancing, color and creativity.

A screenshot from World Of Warcraft

Not to say its going to topple Quake 4, Doom3, or FEAR. But its near decent enough to keep many people interested. And is used as a bottleneck against Runescapes game quality by most Wow fans like

Runescape ¨C Many people wonder what allows a game like Runescape to run via a browser window. The answer, Java. Java is a high-level, object-oriented programming language developed by Sun Microsystems. It is similar to C++ (Another programming Language) but has been simplified to eliminate language features that cause common programming errors. Java is a general purpose programming language with a number of features that make the language well suited for use on the Web.

1.3 ¨C Gameplay

Because of the old Runescape¡¯s introduction and appearance, Runescape was given the ¡°point and click¡± game name. Leveling skills looked from the outside like a simple thing that even a child could do. However things are not always they appear.

A drink is always good, be sure to ask nicely =)

Combat:
Runescape features 23 experienced based skills beginning at level 1. Seven of which, Attack, Strength, Defense, Hit points, Mage, Range, and Prayer are combat based with different styles and weaknesses. Each style has its own equipment and cost based on your level and skill. Not only does runescape offer many combat styles, it offers a very interesting environment with over 300+ characters and 400+ monsters to enhance and develop them.

Other Skills:
Aside from combat, Runescape has skills all the way from slayer and herblore, to mining and cooking. Each skill has a different way to train with multiple methods and amounts of upgrades; level of use depends on the level of the skill. For example, at a certain level of magic.

A player will unlock the ability to teleport to a certain location. Because of how vast the Runescape world is, this feature becomes almost to important to forget about.

Another prime example is construction, of the more recent of skill releases. As you level this skill, you are soon allowed to purchase your own home within the Runescape world at any number of towns or locations. Players who are more learned, and practiced in the skill, can unlock the ability to build their home in more experienced and convenient areas. In one's house, you can have any number of rooms for all kinds of purposes. A few for example, are a treasure room, a portal room, a study, a boxing arena, a dueling arena, and even your own player dungeon where you can store some of the intensely powerful beasts you've come across in your travels, as well as hide traps, puzzles, and rewards for other players to collect.

The skills from the user interface. You'll soon learn every one!

Player Killing: (Pking) (pvp)

PK¡¯ing (also knowing as "Player Killing") is probably one of the most exciting things you can do while playing Runescape. Contrary to the belief that all you need to do is ¡°point, click, and wait¡± you need to be quite attentive during a PK session. Because of the different aspects of stat boosting, equipment, combat level, and combat style it can come down to being so evenly matched, or so outmatched, that a single second, a single decision, can change the outcome of an entire battle spanning hundreds of players. Making Runescape the game that no one player can truly master.

Different from most MMORPG¡¯s during a PVP game, you actually kill your opponent and depending on the rules of the area where you are, you may keep all of your enemy¡¯s equipment, or none of it. Regardless, your enemy bows before you in their death before being transported to Lumbridge (the graveyard town). Because of this, PK¡¯ing is a main income/profession of players.

A large amount of strategy during player killing is required because of certain things, hot spots, magers and archers, powerful melee opponents, and of course clan battles. During such events, a player can choose to run to a safe area or deeper into obstacles and other buildings to deter your chaser. But during the chase certain spells and effects may last that will freeze your opponent in their tracks, poison them, or KO them completely.

On a final note, before ending this section I'd like to make one thing apparent. You cannot beat Runescape, there is no final quest, no item, no skill once mastered, that lets you say ¡°Yeh, I beat it in 30 hours¡± I personally have enjoyed other Mmo's for many hundreds of hours of gameplay and I can truthfully say that if your not interested in PVP (which you should try at least once in all games) and you finish the story, the game gets real dull, real fast. It gets to a point when you log in, that you have no idea what to do, no one is on in the later hours, things you can do for fun don't just pop up. This, in Runescape is only partially true. You feel like playing, log in, take a gander at your skills, look up a quest you'd like to finish, build your house, increase your knowledge of magic, enjoy a game of poker at the gaming lounge. You cannot do it all, in the 6 years Runescape has been out that I have been enjoying it, I have still only made partial progress. The areas, the monsters, the items, the quests, it is infallible to assume that you can do it all.

The Only Major Downside:

But no matter how much you look to avoid it, boredom will set in eventually. There are truly many many skills, but maxing these skills out, or working for gold, or accomplishing a certain task, can take many thousands of hours. However, like anytime the opportunity will only arise if you choose to make it. You will only get bored if you choose to, by accomplishing quests, and following general guidelines, you can make sure you never have to click your mouse to a single task for more than 5 minutes. On the other hand, players that want to turn their characters into great beings of respect and power in the game, the formula is the opposite. Accomplishing this requires as said above, many thousands of hours of work, many, many, many of those hours can be quite boring if you do not find a way to keep yourself occupied or interested.

A counter to this, and personally my favorite single thing I use to absolutely make the time fly when grinding in Runescape is the players themselves, because I play Runescape a lot, I do a lot of skill training/questing/pking and nothing makes it better than training that skill you've been working towards, and just having a conversation with that guy or gal standing next to you doing the same thing. Start a conversation, make some new friends.

1.5 Questing, The Glue Of The Game.

Runescape features over 130+ quests, you have your favorites and your grudges. I personally find a thrill in Runescape quests, there are very few quests that don't have a solid background meaning or deepening storyline under them. At some points you can just freeze and tell the craftsmanship that went into designing and creating a certain puzzle, or a certain item reward, or a new area you get to explore is just amazing. For a full list of quests, check out one of Runescapes fansites located in the links at the bottom of this article.

Mini-Games:

Mini-games are just one of the ways that the good folk of RuneScape use to keep their world interesting and you can take advantage of them to earn experience, get some great new equipment or simply have fun. Runescape currently has twenty-seven available games ranging from anything to Castle Wars ( a capture the flag remake) To the Champions challenge, which required you to defeat the champion of each race in hand to hand combat with different rules and regulations. Each mini-game has its own reward; anything from a new outfit, to constant new experience in certain skills. A list of Runescape mini-games can be found on the knowledge base.

1.6 ¨C WOW Vs Runescape, Videos By Fans Jerks:

This section is purposely my shortest. Most of these poorly edited, poorly thought out, and poorly supported videos mostly updated by video editing rejects who have just recently mastered titles in Windows movie maker. Im a little sick of hearing MC Hammer's Cant touch this while watching every Runescape Vs Wow Video.

Onto my reasoning..

One thing every single one of these videos do is that they refrain from making an actual account on the Runescape website (showing their laziness as researchers), and find the worst, choppy, bright, ugly, disgusting, youtube or google video they can with the most dull of scenery and action. Then on top of that, they put that in their chopped down, poorly converted and compressed video, further hurting the quality. But not their wow footage, that needs to be captured themselves, then it needs to be put through several video filters and add clean looking text. It isn't a ploy of course, this is how they really see their game vs boring 'ol runescape.

Instead of continuing on, I'm just going to ask one thing. Do some research for yourself, make an account, try the game, if you still think the way these video creators do.........well....

Id like to list this video specifically because it stands out among Runescape videos, this creator had footage documenting the history of runescape, up to now the modern version. Showing its changes and ideas.

1.7 Conclusion

I made this article (which did indeed take many hours to write) to show players who have spent their time flaming or criticizing Runescape to open their eyes a little differently, to show them that Runescape can be fun, and isn't a worthless pile of malformed code because of its graphics or game play.

A little about me, I'm Josiah English to those in real life, an avid gamer and Computer guru to those that know me well. Ive been playing games like Runescape since the first days of beta testing, and look for many years more.

Peace and Love

How to get a good life in runescape (Part 1)

Posted on October 21, 2007 at 11:59 PM - 0 Comments - Post Comment - Link

We all like Runescape. It is a great online internet game.
Runescape is very different than real life (obviously).
Do a Runesacpe player, after we finish the new player quest. We will go to mainland. There are lumbridge and vorrock village. We need start a new life which is very different from real life. How to get a good life in runescape is a very important thing for us.
At first, you need make friend. But in runescape, you will find that whatever you say will not be taken seriously at first. If you ask someone to be your runescape friend, they might assume you are a moocher and only talking because you are after their runescape items.
Runescape gold and good items are very important to players. So they can't trust a newbie when you want to make friend or trade them.
But having a network of friends in runescape is part of the game. One of the best ways to make a good, lasting runescape friend in runescape is PKing. If you like to PK then find someone in runescape around your level. Ask them to team up (make sure they don't backstab you!) and after you get your first kill together you'll have a Runescape friend for life in runescape.
Another thing: if you're trading something to a runescape player and it's a fair price (it should be), then don't hesitate to chat about stuff outside of the trade about runescape. Sometimes you might find that you'll make a good runescape friend .Well, maybe he is just a kid of 10 years old.
At last, Pleasure make sure, however, that you don't expect redundant anything from them. Sure, all Runescape friends do favors for each other. But the most common mistake that screws up Runescape friendships is one person always demanding lots of things from the other just because he's a friend in Runescape.

Next we will show the part II of Runescape. I think the topic is how to get lots of Runescape gold in the game.
Larry Cube is the owner of Runescape Shop and the best Runescape player and gold seller .

Levels and skills

The combat level of a player is calculated internally by the game engine using the seven combat skills. The maximum combat level in RuneScape is 126. In RuneScape Classic, the maximum combat level is 123. In both versions of RuneScape, the minimum combat level upon departure from Tutorial Island is three. As a player progresses, it becomes more time-consuming to obtain combat levels, due to the exponential progression of levels.

Attack is trained by using the "accurate" style of combat. Attack level determines how frequently a player's attack hits the opponent as well as the weapons a player can wield in combat.

Strength is trained by using the "aggressive" style of combat. Strength level determines the maximum damage during a single hit that a player can deal in melee combat. Higher strength levels are required to wield certain weapons and armour, such as halberds or granite weaponry and armour.

Defence is trained by using the "defensive" style of combat when fighting, by using the long-range style with most ranged weapons, and by having a spell selected when using a magic staff or wand in the defensive style. Defence level determines the chance of avoiding damage during an opponent's attack as well as the armour that a player can wear.

Hitpoints, which determines how much damage players can sustain before they die, is trained during any combat. Hitpoints lost in battle can be restored by eating food. Hitpoints also regenerate automatically as time passes. The rate of regeneration can be increased by the use of prayer or jewellery.

Magic is trained by using runes to cast spells. Magic level determines the spells a player can use, how often a spell hits an opponent, and how often a player avoids a spell. Many spells, such as teleport, alchemy, and enchant spells, are not combat related; therefore, magic can be trained when players are not actively engaged in combat. The maximum damage a spell can do is determined by the actual spell, not the player's magic level.

Ranged is trained by using arrows, throwing knives, and other projectiles in combat. Ranged level determines the chance of hitting an opponent with a projectile weapon, the amount of damage done, and the ranged armour and weapons that can be worn and wielded.

Prayer is trained by honouring the dead in various ways. Prayer level determines which prayers the player may use as well as how long prayers will remain active before players must recharge their prayer points at an altar or through the use of potions. Prayer was originally called necromancy in the extremely early stages of RuneScape.

[edit] Classes and styles

Unlike most games in the MMORPG genre, RuneScape does not require players to choose a character class but players once choose a combat class. Players are not bound to a specific category of combat, and they may freely change between the three styles of combat at any time simply by switching weapons, armour, or the form and focus of attack. Players can carry the weapons and armour of the three combat categories in their inventories, switching between or even combining the styles at will.

[edit] Melee

Melee fighting is the art of hand-to-hand combat, with or without weapons. Melee fighters, or warriors, concentrate on training their attack, strength, and defence skills as these skills determine the quality of the weapons and armour players are allowed to use as well as the amount of damage they can inflict or avoid in battle.

Melee armour and weapons are usually metallic or magical and are made of many different materials, from bronze to dragon, as well as many other specialty sets of armor. One such set is known as Barrows armor, and, when, worn in a complete set, with helmet, platebody, and platelegs, as well as its respective weapon, has a special effect that occurs randomly.[1][2] Many of the weapons and armour used by warriors can be made by players using the smithing skill. Specialty pieces made of other materials are also available.

Armour consists of various pieces, form fitted to protect various parts of the body. Players can wear a platebody or chainbody to protect their torso and arms. Platelegs or plateskirts protect the legs. Helmets to protect the head come in two styles: full helms complete with visors and plumes, and medium helms that are open faced. Gloves or gauntlets worn on the forearms and hands and boots on the feet effectively cover the player.

Weapons are a mix of medieval and fantastical.[2] Daggers, swords, longswords, two-handed swords, scimitars, maces, warhammers, battle axes, spears, halberds, claws, and whips are commonly available. All the Dragon Weapons and the Abyssal Whip and Mauls have a "Special Attack". Rune claws also have a special attack. Pickaxes and hatchets, while intended as tools for mining and woodcutting, can also be used as weapons.

A ranger kills a Black Knight using a magic shortbow, a powerful ranged weapon.
A ranger kills a Black Knight using a magic shortbow, a powerful ranged weapon.

[edit] Ranged

Ranged fighting is the art of combat with projectile weapons. Many of the weapons used by rangers can be constructed by players using the fletching skill. Many of the ranged armour can be constructed by players using the crafting skill.

Ranging armour is constructed of lightweight materials to enable rangers to move and fire their weapons effectively. While mostly intended for ranging, the use of this type of armour is common among meleers due to the fact that they can give decent defence while being lightweight as well. Materials for armour include cowhide and various dragonhide leathers, as well as snakeskin.[1] Specialty pieces, including a Robin Hood hat and Ranger boots, are also available.

Ranging weaponry consists of bows and crossbows, as well as thrown weapons, such as knives, darts, and javelins. Bows are made of different types of wood with metal fittings and come in short, long, composite, and ogre variants. Arrows used as ammunition for bows can be constructed by players from wooden shafts with metal arrowheads. Crossbow bolts can be tipped with gemstones, which can then be magically enchanted. Some types of bow also have special attacks.[2]

The ranging skill is useful because it allows the player to attack from a distance or across a fence instead of close up melee fighting. Ranging can also be used at "shortcuts" across the map that allow players to cross rivers or fences more easily.

A mage casts the entangle spell on a black knight and defeats him using fire wave.
A mage casts the entangle spell on a black knight and defeats him using fire wave.

[edit] Magic

Magic combat involves the use of spells powered by runes in the player's inventory. The runes, which are consumed upon the casting of a spell, can be purchased or created by players using the runecrafting skill. With the appropriate runes and skill level, players can cast a variety of spells.

Three separate spellbooks exist in the magic skill. The default spellbook is the most diverse and is available to all players, although some of its spells are restricted to those players who choose to pay a monthly fee for additional content (members). It contains combat, teleportation, and helping spells. The ancient magicks spellbook focuses on combat and teleportation spells and can only be used after completion of a difficult quest that is restricted to members. The lunar spellbook, also available only to members after completion of a quest, uses a special kind of rune, astral runes, and focuses on team cooperation and noncombat spells. Players who have earned the right to use various spellbooks can change freely among them; however, they must travel to specific locations to do so.

Magical armour is comprised of robes made from simple cloth, so as to allow more magical energy to flow through the mage without the hindrance of inflexible or uncomfortable materials. Any protection against physical attack provided by robes is derived from magical enchantments.[1] A mage's abilities can be enhanced by using magical staffs, which can be used as quarterstaves in melee and may supply an endless supply of certain runes, and wands.[2]

[edit] Combat triangle

The RuneScape combat triangle
The RuneScape combat triangle

The three classes of combat in RuneScape form the combat triangle. Each class has its own disadvantages and advantages over the other classes. Many variables, such as the weapons and armour used as well as the relative statistics of the combatants, affect the outcome of any battle.

Warriors have an advantage against rangers because of the poor melee defence bonus of the ranger's leather armour, which allows the warrior to deal heavy damage to the ranger. A warrior's metallic armour is also very effective when defending against the ranger's projectile weapons.

Mages have an advantage against warriors due to the magic conducting properties of the metallic armour worn by warriors. Magic spells can bind and freeze players for a small period of time, keeping warriors, with their short-range weapons, from reaching mages.

Rangers have an advantage against mages as their leather and dragonhide armour have high magic defence bonuses. Arrows easily pierce mage robes to cause damage to the wearer. Rangers' long-range attacks allow them to deal damage from a distance even when bound or frozen.

[edit] Player versus monster

Players engage in combat with NPCs for many reasons. Experience in attack, strength, defence, range, mage, and hitpoints is gained by inflicting damage upon opponents. Prayer experience is gained by burying the bones left behind when certain NPCs die or by simply killing certain NPCs. Wealth is gained by defeating many NPCs, as they drop items, equipment, or coins when they die. Quests are often completed by defeating a particular monster or group of monsters. Mini-games, such as Pest Control, the Barrows, or the TzHaar Fight Cave, require players to defeat monsters in order to gain rewards.

However, the more powerful monsters can drop Clue Scrolls. These scrolls are often long and tedious mini-quests, but almost always provide worthwhile rewards. Very often, these scrolls involve visiting someone, or searching hidden crates or areas.

[edit] Player versus player (PvP)

[edit] History

In the earliest versions of RuneScape, players could not engage in player versus player, or PvP combat. With the release of the third version, PvP combat was introduced to the game; however, players were required to choose whether they wished to play as player-killer characters or non-player- killer characters. Players were allowed to switch from player-killer mode to non-player-killer mode only three times, after which they remained at their chosen setting forever.

PvP combat could take place in most locations throughout Gielinor. Lumbridge was eventually designated as a neutral area where players could not attack each other in order to prevent players from being killed again immediately after respawning, a practice known as spawn camping. NPC Guards and White Knights patrolled the cities of Varrock and Falador respectively, breaking up PvP battles by attacking the aggressors; however, these guard units were limited in number. When all the guard units in the city were already engaged in combat, PvP combat flourished.

On 13 August 2001, this system of PvP combat was replaced by the Wilderness. Over the next few years, Jagex continued to add locations for PvP combat in mini-games, such as Castle Wars, the duel arena, and the TzHaar fight pits.[3]

[edit] Wilderness

See also: the Wilderness

In the Wilderness, a barren area located in the northern part of the RuneScape map, players can engage in combat with each other, a practice commonly known as PKing (player-killing). Players may attack any player within a specified range of combat levels dictated by the level of Wilderness. This level increases as players proceed further north into the Wilderness.

Players who initiate combat by attacking other players are identified by a skull icon affixed above their heads for approximately 20 minutes. This is commonly known as being skulled. If the aggressors subsequently die while skulled, they drop all items they are carrying at the time of death on the ground, instead of keeping their three most valuable items. Use of prayer can allow skulled players to retain their single most valuable item. The items dropped can be picked up by other players. However, the items appear first to the player who dealt the dead player the most damage. Only after do the items dropped appear to other players.

Some players will create special PKing characters, known as pures, in order to optimize certain skills while keeping their combat level low. This is accomplished by heavily training the skills that are being optimized (usually range, mage, or both), while training the other combat skills to the minimum level required for effectiveness or not at all. In most cases, defence and/or prayer is sacrificed for high ranged, magic, and/or strength, leading to a misleading combat level to deceive the enemy.

Some players will band together to form teams that travel the Wilderness together, defending themselves from attack more effectively than a single player. These larger groups lead rise to more complex combat strategies, such as the "Death Dot", where all players stand on one square of the map making them appear to be a single character. Teams may be formed for one foray into the Wilderness, or they may be part of a larger clan. Most clans are permanent organizations, complete with websites and forums.[citation needed] Clan members usually have something in common, either combat levels, RuneScape goals, age, or other factors, that bring them together as a cohesive unit to perform various functions together.

[edit] Duel arena

The Duel arena is located in Al Kharid and is available only to members. It allows a formal fight between two and only two players. The combatants must agree to the terms and conditions of their fight before it starts. Players can choose to duel for fun and experience or to stake items or gold pieces that the winner will receive. The players will not lose the items that they did not stake when they die.

[edit] Castle Wars

Castle Wars is a combat-based minigame, similar to capture the flag, in which two teams of players attempt to invade the enemy team's castle, steal their flag, and bring it back to their own castle. Players can choose to fight on the side of Saradomin (blue) or Zamorak (red) by entering a portal. There is a third "side", which is Guthix (green). If the player chooses to enter the Guthix portal, the player is placed on the team with the least amount of players. Inside the game players can pick-up bandages, barricades, and other items to help bring the team to victory. Players may only attack their enemies on the opposing team, and dying inside the minigame carries none of the normal penalties such as loss of items and being transported to a respawn point. The game lasts twenty minutes. Each player on the winning team gets two tickets, which can be exchanged for decorative armour, while a tie results in all players in the game getting one ticket.

[edit] TzHaar fight pit

The TzHaar fight pit is a combat arena located under the Karamja volcano. Players can enter the arena and fight each other to the death using any style of combat. Players who are killed in the fight respawn in the waiting area with all their items; therefore, there is no risk. The last player standing receives a prize and is marked in the next battle by a red skull above his or her head.

[edit] Player owned houses

Players may create combat rooms in their houses using the construction skill. In the combat room, they can build several combat rings each with their own rules. All of these combat rings allow players to gain experience in the combat skills.

Players cannot gain or lose items in any combat room, as players will simply reappear outside the ring should they die, with no loss of items. Players like to place bets on who will win, and the combat ring is popular for clan events. Combatants gain experience for every blow landed - as with other forms of combat.

Players may also build their own throne rooms and dungeons. In the throne room players can turn their dungeon on and off and can also turn on player vs. player (PvP) mode. There is still nothing to lose in a PvP dungeon, but if players make it to the treasure room and defeat the boss, they can gain treasure (donated by the house owner). The owner of the dungeon may place various monsters in the dungeon for other players to fight; these monsters range from a basic skeleton guard to a powerful steel-scaled dragon available only to those who have a very high construction level.
